So i am sitting here watching the wonderful Geoff Smith doing a concert that was streamed on Ustream.tv on 08.06.08 and it got me thinking about podcasting. You know the old school idea of podcasting made famous by Adam Curry. Ad-Free stick it to the man pirate radio on the internet. It also made me sad that it died pretty quickly. Not in concept but in execution.

First with podshow a curry company, TWiT, and then with Revision3 the idea of advertising in podcasts became the way. Commercial companies even started doing their own podcasts mostly to advertise their products to a new era of media consumer. I personally really hated this trend and bucked it all the time in the forums and chat rooms of places like Hak5. Podcasting was never meant to be a way to make a living. It was a way to spread your message no matter what that message was. It was a way to be seen if you had talent like Geoff Smith who i mentioned before. It was in the most part a way to stick a giant boot up the ass of commercial radio which had become 99% ads and BS....like podcasting is now.

With my new show i hope to totally buck this trend and go back to the old ways of podcasting. Ad-free, anything goes, brain dumping audio. I hope others follow and stop being lured by the almighty dollar and come back to podcastings roots of raw, people first, fuck athority radio programing. We may be broke but we are rich in voice and we shall be free.
